Welcome To The Ocean Gate School
Ocean Gate School is located on 126 West Arverne Avenue in Ocean Gate, New Jersey. The town is located on the southern bank of Toms River in Ocean County. The borough encompasses .44 square miles and as of the 2000 Census, has an overall population of 2,076.
Ocean Gate was originally part of Berkeley Township. In 1914 Berkeley Township built the original one room school (pictured above) on Arverne Avenue with an outhouse and a pot bellied wood stove. All eight grades were taught in this school. Today this building is occupied by our Kindergarten class.
In 1940 a
two room school (pictured above) was built on Barnegat Avenue. In 1956 Ocean Gate
became a member district of Central Regional High School. Our
students attend Central Regional School District in neighboring
Berkeley Township for grades seven through twelve.
In 1968 the
third building was built on Arverne Avenue. This building is pictured on our home page. Again in 1994, Ocean
Gate School
expanded with an addition to the main building.
The school serves grades
Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Six. We have full day
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes. The total school population is 158 students.
This school term, 2006-2007, is our
ninth year with a whole
school technology program and a LAN links Ocean Gates' three
school buildings together. The pictures above and below
are of the Updegraff Media Center. Comcast provides the
Ocean Gate School with a donation of high speed Internet access.
