Ocean Gate Government Day
Ocean Gate Elementary School Students Fill Town Hall For Government Day
|
Ocean Gate Elementary School
students were able to experience how their local government
operates. Scores of 4th, 5th and 6th graders filled a town hall room
where yesterday's Council meeting was held.
After the meeting, students described what stuck with them most. Some said , "I liked that the Mayor and a lot of people were saying words we just learned in science, like "ecosystem". Another learned that the pier is going to be coming off. Another hearing about sand blasting being done in the Ocean Gate water tank wanted to know "just what they did with all that water in the tank?" The students were also able to ask the Mayor and Council questions during the public comment period. Mayor Paul Kennedy says it was the first Government Day in the borough. He says it's important for children to know what their local government does. The elementary school also received a proclamation and an award for being named a "Blue Ribbon" school during the meeting. Copyright 2010 - 92.7 WOBM News. All rights reserved |
