Goals

I am very happy to be seeing all the students through Zoom. Our goals for Art this year will include several areas of emphasis. In order to stay safe, we will not be sharing art supplies. Instead we will have an opportunity to concentrate on the Principles and Elements of Art, the connection to Social and Emotional Learning through art, connections to Art History and World Culture and skills that help students become learners for life. These include, but are not limited to, problem-solving, developing creativity, practicing to focus, and developing self-confidence. Although these have always guided curriculum in my class, now we will have more focused time to concentrate on core concepts. Our hands-on projects will be smaller in nature. Learning this way will strengthen the foundation for when we go back to using the art room. Additional work that the students do may be shared with me through email if desired. I always love to see what the students are doing at home. Art is being graded and students (Grade 1-6) need to be present to get credit for participation.

Routines

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten are using Seesaw. Your regular teacher may have already linked it for you. We will be using lessons geared toward the basic concepts of art, such as shapes, colors and patterns. Please encourage your child to color, paste, hold a pencil properly and learn to use a scissor safely. Reinforcing concepts like shape, color and lines help too.

Grades One through Sixth, remote or live, will Zoom into the classroom at the specified times. Times are listed below as well as on the Art Google Classroom where the students can click on the Zoom link. Students have received an email with the information needed to participate. Please tell your child to use the school given email only. I can not admit students that use an unknown email address. Art will be on Tuesday for Grades 4-6 an Wednesday for Grades 1-3.  Schedule and meeting information as follows:

Supplies

Remote students should have scissor, pencil, markers or crayons, and paper ready in case needed during our class.

You may use what you have at home, but here is a suggested supply list. Most items can be purchased at the dollar store

Pencil, eraser, pencil sharpener, watercolor set, small and medium brushes, markers, Sharpie, glue bottle or glue stick, scissor, ruler, thin paper, like copy paper for drawing, and construction paper; colored and white for paints. In addition you may want to purchase air-dry clay, like Model-Magic and colored pencils.

I am looking forward to an awesome year of Art.
